'Embittered' ex-wife is given a suspended sentence for blackmailing dentist ex-husband with drinking lies

Dina Williamson, 39, threatened to report her ex-husband Ben Williamson, 41, to the General Dental Council unless he paid her more from their divorce settlement, a court heard. She was handed a suspended sentence and a five-year restraining order at Bournemouth Crown Court after admitting blackmail.
Williamson claimed Ben was drinking between patients — lies a judge called 'malicious and salacious' — forcing him to endure a nine-month GDC investigation before being cleared.
Ben, an alcoholic in recovery with 16 years as a dentist, said he suffered serious stress and anxiety while the false allegations hung over him.
When confronted with her own messages after he went to police, Dina initially denied blackmail — one text read: 'I don't want to ruin your career going to the GDC.'
