Embittered ex-wife who blackmailed dentist husband with boozing lies is spared jail at Bournemouth Crown Court

Dina Williamson, 39, told her ex-husband Ben Williamson, 41, that she would report him to the General Dental Council if he did not increase her divorce settlement payment. She followed through on that threat in May 2025, alleging he had been drinking between patient appointments — claims the court heard were wholly fabricated. Ben Williamson, who has practised as a dentist for 16 years, endured nine months of investigation before being exonerated, during which he suffered significant stress and anxiety.
Judge Jonathan Fuller said Williamson had grown 'embittered' over what she considered an unjust divorce settlement, despite the court having already found in Ben's favour.
After Ben stopped responding to her messages, Dina wrote to him: 'No chance of a reply? See you at my funeral then?' and separately used his practice's Facebook page to allege that male surgeons cheated on their partners.
Williamson received a suspended sentence and a five-year restraining order after pleading guilty to blackmail at Bournemouth Crown Court.
