Emotional John Swinney vows to deliver Scottish independence for his teenage son as SNP unveils 'six-figure war chest' campaign
John Swinney's voice quivered as he spoke of his 15-year-old son Matthew, then the autocue stalled and he muttered 'oh, come on'. The Aberdeen conference crowd filled the silence with a standing ovation. The First Minister insisted the referendum campaign 'has already begun', branding his new 'Choose Scotland' drive the SNP's most sophisticated ever. He also took a swipe at Prime Minister Andy Burnham: 'Scotland is no city.'
Senior SNP figures see a hung Westminster parliament as their likeliest route to another referendum.
Swinney claims independence is 'very close', but there is no referendum without a surge in support.
He promised a new Bill making misogynistic harassment and abuse a specific crime.
