Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh attacks her OWN government's migrant settlement crackdown while Labour cabinet splits deepen

Miatta Fahnbulleh told Peckham constituents that making migrants wait longer for settlement could 'prolong the process of building cohesion'. She urged Labour to 'challenge divisive political rhetoric' on immigration. She follows Angela Rayner, who branded Shabana Mahmood's plans 'un-British'. Andy Burnham is also understood to be concerned, and the Home Office is expected to water the reforms down.
Mahmood's plan would make migrants wait far longer than the current five years.
Chris Philp: Labour's Cabinet is 'openly campaigning' against its own immigration policy.
Fahnbulleh's allies admit the statement was poorly worded and will be changed.
