Kenya confirms second Ebola case as relative of first victim falls ill in quarantine

A 39-year-old man, a close relative of the Kenyan businessman who died of Ebola on 5 October, has tested positive for the virus after falling ill on Tuesday — having already been placed in quarantine. Kenya's health ministry said detecting the case early improves his chances of recovery and reduces the risk of onward transmission. Officials have traced 113 of the 128 people the first victim contacted, with 108 now in quarantine and 15 still being sought.
The first victim, aged 40, travelled from DR Congo through Uganda to Kenya undetected, dying in a Nairobi hospital.
The Bundibugyo Ebola strain driving the outbreak has no approved vaccine or treatment, though trials are under way.
DR Congo's outbreak has now surpassed 9,000 confirmed cases and more than 4,300 deaths — the deadliest in the country's history.
