Eton clamps down on iPads for Prince George and first-year pupils after parents complained of gaming in class

Eton College has overhauled its iPad policy for first-year pupils, including Prince George, after more than 100 parents wrote to the school's provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge complaining that boys were gaming and browsing unsupervised during lessons and homework time. The new rules confine students to a secure browser and a teacher-vetted whitelist of approved websites. The policy change follows a letter in December 2024 arguing the school was "currently failing the boys."
Parents warned unrestricted iPad access was damaging pupils' learning, with boys gaming in their bedrooms unsupervised at night.
George, 13, arrived at Eton on 8 September with Prince William and Princess Kate, following in his father's footsteps at the prestigious Berkshire school.
Eton also enforces a 'tardy book' for late pupils and allows teachers to physically tear work they deem substandard — triggering a formal 'white ticket' progress report.
