EU tech chief dodges question on US firing squad livestream plan at Dublin AI summit

Henna Virkkunen, the European Commission's vice president for tech sovereignty, refused to answer a journalist's question about what the EU would do if the US livestreams the firing squad execution of Fort Hood gunman Nidal Malik Hasan. The press officer ended the media opportunity immediately, cutting off further questioning at the Irish Government's AI summit in Dublin.
Hasan is scheduled to be executed on December 3 for killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth proposed the execution could be publicly broadcast, saying: 'We'll make sure that people are able to watch it.'
JD Vance has cast doubt on whether the Pentagon will actually livestream it, adding: 'I'm not going to be watching it.'
