Ex-Lord Chancellor to probe whether police and schools missed chances to stop Henry Nowak's murder
Body-worn footage exposes the wicked lies Henry Nowak's killer told police on the night of the murderHenry Nowak and his father. An inquiry led by former Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk KC will examine whether police and schools missed chances to prevent Henry's murder.
Former Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk KC will lead the two-part inquiry, digging into five years of police, school, health and faith-group dealings with Vickrum Digwa. Digwa stabbed 18-year-old Henry Nowak in Southampton last December and is serving life with a 21-year minimum. Officers handcuffed the dying student after Digwa claimed racist abuse. A first report is due by March.
When Henry Nowak said he had been stabbed, an officer replied: 'Don't think you have, mate.'
Phase two will examine the IOPC watchdog and, 'if necessary', the police themselves.
His family called it 'positive news at last' after a 'deeply disappointing' justice system.
