Ex-Met officer who served in Wayne Couzens's unit is found guilty of rape after telling his victim 'that was rape'

Mark Tyrrell, 57, of Meltham, West Yorkshire, used his position as a Metropolitan Police officer to cultivate a relationship with a vulnerable woman he first met during a welfare check, before going on to rape and sexually assault her over several years. The jury at Southwark Crown Court convicted him of one count of rape, three of sexual assault and one of perverting the course of justice by trying to delete his messages. He has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on 16 December.
Tyrrell was attached to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command — the same unit as convicted rapists Wayne Couzens and David Carrick.
When officers visited the victim's home on an unrelated matter, they found Tyrrell hidden beside her bed; he had earlier pleaded guilty to misconduct in a public office.
In a message to his victim, Tyrrell apologised for 'being a sex offender' and 'for ruining your life by being in it'.
