Experts warn Ebola tracking failures are putting containment at risk after Kenya confirmed a third case

Around a third of cases in the DR Congo outbreak go undetected until after death. In roughly half of confirmed cases, investigators cannot identify the source of infection or who passed the virus to the patient. Contact-tracing rates are running below the 80 per cent target. Kenya's first patient, a 40-year-old who had lived in the DRC, travelled by road to Kampala before flying to Nairobi, where he died on 5 October.

Kenya's third case is a family member closely related to the first two patients.

The second patient, 39, had already been placed in quarantine before falling ill on Tuesday.
