Fake nuclear strike alerts are sent to millions after Ukraine's and Russia's emergency apps are BOTH hacked hours apart

The hoax struck minutes after loudspeakers in Lviv blared the fake warnings aloud, as Russia simultaneously claimed its own emergency app suffered a cyberattack sending fake nuclear alerts inside Russia.
The hoax struck minutes after loudspeakers in Lviv blared the fake warnings aloud, as Russia simultaneously claimed its own emergency app suffered a cyberattack sending fake nuclear alerts inside Russia.

Hackers broke into Ukraine's Air Alert app on Sunday night, sending seven million users false warnings of an incoming Oreshnik nuclear missile strike, radiation fallout and chemical attacks — sparking mass panic before the Ukrainian Air Force debunked the alerts within ten minutes. Hours later, Russia's own Emergencies Ministry app was hit in a separate attack, sending false nuclear warnings to users across 33 regions.

Ukraine's Air Alert, used by roughly seven million people to take shelter from real Russian strikes, is believed to have been hacked for the first time.

One of the fake Ukrainian alerts was written in Russian, taunting: 'Don't worry, an Oreshnik is overhead — a nuclear alert has been activated across Ukraine.'

Russia blamed attackers for exploiting a vulnerability in its Emergencies Ministry app's administrative panel, prompting officials to disconnect affected services.
