North Yorkshire villagers ask 'am I going to move home?' as a 1,250-migrant camp is set to open 20 steps from houses

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp joined senior Tories in Linton-on-Ouse on Friday, warning the village of just 700 residents faces becoming "two thirds male illegal immigrants" if Labour's plan to billet up to 1,500 asylum seekers at the former RAF base goes ahead. Properties sit empty and "to let" signs are multiplying as residents who can leave do, while those who have bought homes fear they cannot sell. A journalist who walked the perimeter found a children's playground backing directly onto the base, separated by only a small see-through fence.

Labour has assembled a £150m war chest to "fund additional large sites" for asylum seekers, with the Home Office confirming some will convert unannounced new sites.

Families are already reportedly pulling children from local schools, amid fears over the scale of the planned camp.

Philp said he is "concerned for the safety of this village" and pledged to back residents fighting to block the Home Office scheme.
