Ilhan Omar and Sahra Noor. Federal investigators have subpoenaed Sahra Noor as part of a criminal fraud probe into Omar's immigration paperwork.

Agents took Sahra Noor's phone — she is Omar's sister — earlier this year during an inquiry into potential immigration fraud by the family. Investigators also reportedly went through Omar's rubbish for DNA samples in the days leading up to Monday's raid. Noor, who lives in Kenya, withdrew from a book event in Rochester, citing a 'family emergency'. A Minnesota grand jury is expected to examine whether the family made false statements upon their arrival in 1995.

Omar's lawyers, Amy Jeffress and Joshua Matz, called the probe 'vindictive, retributive, and politically motivated'.

The Justice Department said their letter was 'riddled with false allegations and inaccuracies'.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said Omar should face the 'gray bar motel' if the claims are proven.
