'Fart left': JD Vance's slip of the tongue at North Carolina rally goes viral after backpedal

Vice President JD Vance accidentally called his political opponents the 'fart left' instead of the 'far left' during a campaign rally in Greensboro, North Carolina, then immediately tried to laugh it off. He was stumping for Republican Senate nominee Michael Whatley, who trails Democrat and former Governor Roy Cooper by 11 points in an Elon University poll of 800 adults.

Vance pre-emptively blamed 'fake news' for any bad-language claims, insisting: 'I promise I did not mean to call them the fart left.'

Democratic Representative Jim McGovern mocked Vance on X, writing: 'JD Vance has the charisma of a trash can.'

The clip went viral online, with critics branding the stumble a 'Trump-style act backfiring' on the would-be successor.
