Girl, 6, with a rare genetic syndrome and her brother, 8, die with their father in Pennsylvania parking garage murder-suicide
Patrick Lynch, 42, whose six-year-old daughter Caroline had been living with Williams syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting development and the heart.
Patrick Lynch, 42, took his son James, 8, and daughter Caroline, 6, to the roof of a municipal parking garage in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday afternoon, throwing both children to their deaths before jumping himself. First responders performed CPR on all three but were unable to save any of them. Two nearby elementary schools, Markham and Washington, closed on Wednesday to shield pupils from further distress.
Caroline had been diagnosed at birth with Williams syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting growth, cognition and the heart.
Mt. Lebanon Police Chief Jason Haberman, visibly emotional, told reporters the incident was being investigated 'not as an accident'.
The children's mother, Anna DeMase Lynch, had described the Williams Syndrome Association as 'our greatest support system' in a 2024 fundraiser post.
