Coroner warns 1.6 million Hoover dryers may share a fault after a fire killed a father and daughter, 9
Sohaib Ahmed, 38, was found unresponsive behind his front door in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, after fire tore through the family home on 8 June 2025. His daughter Manahal, nine, later died of smoke inhalation, while her sister survived after extensive hospital treatment. Senior coroner Martin Fleming says the blaze most likely started in a DX C10DCER-80 Hoover condenser tumble dryer. He has suggested halting sales of the model while safety checks are carried out.
Fire services have sent the product safety watchdog a 'significant number' of fire notifications involving this model.
Experts told the coroner the dryer can 'burn almost completely' once alight, hiding any fault.
Hoover and Candy share the same parent company, Chinese giant Haier Group.
