First Russian diesel tanker since 2023 sails for New York after Trump struck a fuel deal with Putin
The Malta-flagged Agioi Fanendes took on its cargo at the Baltic port of Primorsk on October 22 and is due in New York on November 7. Its 40,000 tons equal roughly 7% of the diesel America burns in one day. Energy experts say the deal is unlikely to dent painful pump prices. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov promised 'regular supplies will continue'.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it 'a weak decision by strong partners'.
Trump asked Kyiv last month to halt drone strikes on Russian oil refineries.
The shipment arrives days after the November 3 midterms, with fuel costs biting voters.
