Bar Tempranillo in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, La Rioja, gave way at around 5.25am on Saturday when it was holding roughly 50 people taking part in a local Wine Fest bar crawl. The floor caved in first, followed by part of the ceiling, leaving between 25 and 30 people pinned under the rubble until emergency services extracted them.
Among the 12 injured, six were transported to Hospital Universitario San Pedro in Logroño; the most seriously hurt victim had what may have been a broken leg and an open wound.
Firefighters deployed a specialist search-and-rescue dog to check the debris and stabilise the structure against any further collapse before confirming that nobody remained trapped.
