Florida cop is accused of moving into dead man's home he found on welfare check — then SUING his heirs

Lauderhill police officer Brian Louis Sguros, 35, was arrested on Tuesday. Investigators say he falsely told the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office that he was a friend of Dennis Ionis West and that West left behind no living relatives. A permit filed two years after West's death allegedly bore the dead man's signature. Sguros faces five charges, including official misconduct.

West, 71, was found dead at his front entrance on July 11, 2022.

Sguros claims he poured over $214,000 into the house, lifting its value to about $500,000.

He admitted in a sworn court document to taking over the property within weeks.
