Florida fisherman, 71, is dragged into a pond and killed by a 12ft alligator while other gators kept rescuers back

A 71-year-old Winter Garden man, Steven Hamilton, was fishing at Dr Bradford Memorial Park — a pond connected to Lake Apopka — at around 5pm on Friday when an alligator attacked him. Firefighters who responded found more than twelve alligators at the scene. His body could not be recovered until approximately 7pm, when crews were finally able to retrieve it safely. Trappers later caught and killed the 11ft 8in reptile. Police had received no prior reports of an alligator sighting in the area.

Brittany Clark, 31, died in June while swimming near Orlando.

Police Captain Michael Mason said: 'It looks like it's docile... but it can be dangerous.'
