Irene Miller, 50, a photographer from Kissimmee, Florida, left her four children — aged nine, 11, 12 and 14 — alone in her condo for five days from October 18 to travel to Las Vegas for work, and told deputies who called to report her son's injury that she 'couldn't come home.' The nine-year-old was rushed to hospital after a dumbbell struck him on the head, with his older sister making the 911 call because no adult was present.
Miller told deputies that a Tampa babysitter looked in on the children before and after school but was not required to stay overnight.
Estranged husband Mark Miller, 53, who had no idea his wife had left the children, is now caring for all four in a single motel room and has launched a GoFundMe seeking $5,000.
Legal experts warn she faces up to 20 years in prison, with a Miami family lawyer calling the situation 'classic neglect' and 'a recipe for disaster.'
