Ben Sutcliffe, the Cleveland Police officer found guilty of gross misconduct, exchanged around 64,000 messages with a junior colleague between July 2024 and November 2025.

Ben Sutcliffe exchanged 57,568 WhatsApp messages and 6,631 texts with the probationary constable, referred to only as PC A. The Cleveland Police dog handler brought his police dog along when he visited her home for sex during night shifts. When senior officers questioned him, he claimed they were nothing more than friends and told her to lie as well. He resigned in February, but Chief Constable Victoria Fuller concluded he would have faced dismissal had he stayed.

Sutcliffe has been barred from the College of Policing register and is permanently ineligible to serve as a police officer.

He also shared confidential details of another officer's arrest with PC A without any legitimate policing purpose.

Fuller determined that he had demonstrated 'dishonesty over an extended period of time'.
