Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian FlyDubai pilot who fought off a crash axe attack aboard Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30, has gone public with the extent of his injuries from the incident. Despite his wounds, Machchhar forced the cockpit door open, enabling passengers and crew to subdue the attacker and divert the plane to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where all 182 people on board were brought to safety.

The attacker was the flight's own first officer, who struck Machchhar with a crash axe in the cockpit mid-flight.
