Food safety chiefs issue 'do not eat' warning after Salmonella is found in Ukrainian eggs linked to 36 UK cases

The FSA and Food Standards Scotland have issued an urgent recall of eggs bearing the code 3UA1012066, supplied by Kyiv-based Yasensvit Ltd, after Salmonella Enteritidis was detected and linked to 36 confirmed cases in England this year. Whole genome sequencing identified the strain as t5.8998, genetically distinct from a separate national outbreak that has caused 586 cases and two deaths since August. The affected eggs were distributed mainly through wholesalers and caterers but may also have reached independent corner shops and convenience stores. Major supermarket eggs are unaffected, as they are British-produced.
The code 3UA1012066 appears stamped directly on the shell — the only dependable way to identify affected eggs, since they may have been repacked under various brand names.
Consumers who have purchased affected eggs are advised to throw them away at home without delay, rather than returning them to shops.
Infants, pregnant women, older adults and the immunocompromised are at greatest risk; anyone experiencing symptoms should remain away from work or school for at least 48 hours.
