Edward Nixon, 56, who served as managing director of Adidas in Korea, and his wife Sally purchased West Barn in East Haddon, Northamptonshire, for £1.3 million, only to receive a council enforcement notice in June 2021 requiring demolition or substantial alterations. Developer Barry Howard had sold them the land for £600,000 and secured a further £700,000 contract to complete the build, assuring them during a July 2020 video call that "the house is built and the planners are happy with it." The Nixons contend that the barn measured 36 metres — two metres beyond what the approved plans allowed.

Nixon is suing Barry Howard and his firm Barry Howard Homes for £900,000, alleging 'fraudulent misrepresentation'.

The couple argue that Howard must have been aware the dimensions exceeded planning limits at the point he completed an enquiry form.

Howard rejects the claim, maintaining that he was entirely unaware the renovated barn had exceeded its approved size.
