Former army chief Gadi Eisenkot, who lost a son in Gaza, leads Netanyahu in polls before Tuesday's Israeli election
Benjamin Netanyahu faces a deadlocked election on 27 October, with Arab parties holding enough seats to hand the opposition a majority if it joins forces with them.
Gadi Eisenkot brands Benjamin Netanyahu, 77, an 'anti-leader' and says he is running to 'save Israel'. President Donald Trump endorsed Netanyahu's re-election this week. Neither bloc is expected to reach the 61 Knesset seats needed, with a polling average giving the anti-Netanyahu camp 53 and his coalition 51. Tens of thousands of Israelis are flying home to vote against the prime minister.
Eisenkot's son Gal Meir, 25, and two nephews were killed fighting in Gaza.
Netanyahu is on trial for corruption and has blocked a state inquiry into October 7.
Palestinian parties could be kingmakers, but the opposition refuses to say it would govern with them.
