Former Green leader warns of a 'hard-left takeover' and says some members 'might be more at home' in the SWP

Adrian Ramsay, former co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, warned that the party faces a hard-left takeover by members who drifted in following the collapse of George Galloway's and Jeremy Corbyn's political movements. His intervention followed a membership vote last month on a motion that classified Zionism as a form of racism — one Ramsay opposed and said left him "deeply uncomfortable". The row is now bleeding into local government, with Labour threatening to dissolve close to half its Green council coalitions unless Green councillors publicly reject the policy.
Drew Creek, the Green mayor of Newquay and Cornwall Green leader, resigned from the party and joined Labour, saying the Zionism motion 'crossed a line'.
Ramsay has stated his view that Israel has the right to exist — putting him at odds with leader Zack Polanski, who has refused to affirm the same position.
Israel's foreign ministry has banned Polanski from entering the country, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission has written to the party demanding more information.
