Caroline Voaden, the Liberal Democrat MP for South Devon, has been identified as the MP who had a physical confrontation with Nigel Farage in the Commons chamber. Farage pointed to fears of a repeat episode — following the removal of his prayer card — as his reason for watching the Budget from outside the chamber. A former Reform MP has since supported Farage's version of events, describing Voaden as the aggressor.

Voaden pushed back on social media, saying: 'We both know that's not what happened.'

Farage said he 'didn't make a fuss' at the time but feared a second altercation when his seat reservation was pulled.

Despite 643 MPs, the Commons chamber holds only 427 at once, making Budget day a flashpoint for jostling over seats.
