Essex Police forced entry to an address on Sawyers Grove, Brentwood, at around 7.20am on Friday after reports of a damaged door during a neighbour dispute, leading to the arrest of a man and a woman. Inside, officers discovered a number of small objects that needed to be examined by specialists, prompting a 100-metre cordon across parts of Sawyers Hall Lane and Highland Avenue as well as Sawyers Grove itself. A bomb disposal robot was deployed as experts worked to identify the objects.

Sawyers Grove sits just metres from St Thomas of Canterbury Church of England Primary School, though half-term meant no pupils were present.

Both individuals remained in custody on Friday afternoon; police did not confirm the nature of the suspected offences.
