Police forced entry into a house on Sawyers Grove, Brentwood, at 7:20am on Friday after reports of a damaged door, arresting a man and woman at the scene. Officers discovered several small items during a search that required specialist assessment, triggering a 100-metre cordon across much of the street and parts of Sawyers Hall Lane and Highland Avenue.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts are assessing the items to determine their exact nature.

Resident Michael Page, 84, said he was given no explanation when told to leave his home at around 11:30am.
