Four Canadian soldiers are killed and dozens are injured after a fast-moving fire sweeps through an Alberta military training base

Commanders believed the blaze at CFB Wainwright was contained enough for live-fire training to continue until winds shifted. Maj-Gen Wade Rutland said: 'That is not normal for a fire to move a kilometre in 36 seconds.' Sgt Morgan Wong and Privates Shaun Farrell, Aidan Goulding and Hayden Lykkemark died. Of 39 people in hospital, at least 19 are critical.

PM Mark Carney called it 'one of the worst tragedies for the forces on Canadian soil in peacetime'.

An Edmonton emergency doctor said hospitals near the base were 'completely overwhelmed' by casualties.

Ontario mayoral candidate Cathy Keane has suspended her campaign after her son was 'critically injured'.
