Four Philippine Air Force pilots are killed after two training planes collide mid-air over an air base south of Manila

Footage captures the two SF-260 trainers flying low alongside at least four other aircraft before a burst of smoke marks the moment of impact at 3.51pm on Friday. Both aircraft went down inside Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, Batangas, one coming to rest near military barracks. The Philippine Air Force has stood down its entire SF-260 fleet while an investigation takes place. Spokesman Colonel Alvin Jay Capinguian confirmed there were no casualties on the ground.

In May, two pilots died when another SF-260 crashed in Benguet province.

The underfunded military has for years found it difficult to bring its ageing air force up to date.
