Four Philippine Air Force pilots are killed as two training planes collide mid-air over a base south of Manila

Footage shows the two SF-260s flying low alongside at least four other aircraft before a puff of smoke marks the moment they collided. The crash occurred at 3.51pm on Friday over Fernando Air Base in Batangas province. Both aircraft came down inside the base perimeter — one close to military barracks — without causing any casualties on the ground. The SF-260 fleet has been taken out of service while investigators determine the cause.

Air Force Colonel Alvin Capinguian described the crash as accidental but offered no further details.

In May, two pilots died when another SF-260 went down in Benguet province.

The two-seater SF-260s were purchased from Italy by the cash-strapped Philippine military.
