Fox News anchor Bret Baier defended colleague Jonathan Hunt on air within minutes of Trump posting on Truth Social that Baier should "straighten out his flunkies." Hunt had reported there were "no significant developments" in the Iran war and that Trump said he was not seeking talks with Tehran — a characterisation Trump called "particularly inaccurate." Baier read the post aloud, then told the President directly: "Jonathan is not a flunky — he's a great reporter."

Trump's complaint centred on Hunt noting that Iran and the US were not in negotiations, though Trump himself was played on air saying he was "not looking to meet or anything."

Baier told Trump on air: "We didn't say you wanted to meet" — pointing out producers had played Trump's own words to that effect.

Right-leaning social media users branded Baier's response "tacky" and "left-leaning," prompting the anchor to continue defending himself on X after the broadcast ended.
