The White House helipad, whose ribbon-cutting ceremony was broadcast without sound after ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC suspended pool coverage in solidarity with the banned outlets.
Fox News Media joined its rivals in suspending pooled TV coverage of President Trump after the White House prevented CNN from carrying out its scheduled pool duties on Monday. In a joint statement, the five networks — Fox News, ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC — declared that press freedom bars any administration from penalising a news organisation because of its coverage. CNN, Politico and MS NOW have brought a First Amendment lawsuit, with a federal court hearing the case today.
Trump announced the ban on Friday via Truth Social, charging that the three outlets had published 'fake news' and 'fiction and lies' about his administration.
The Justice Department, responding to the lawsuit, said the banned outlets had spread 'falsehoods' and also invoked national security as justification.
A CNN producer reportedly said the ban is 'a gift' for anchor Kaitlan Collins, calling it something that makes her 'the biggest star at CNN at least for this week'.
