France and Germany offer to build Argentina three hunter-killer submarines while Burnham pushes Britain closer to Europe

Downing Street has received warnings that an upgrade to Javier Milei's navy could prove to be a 'game changer' for Britain's capacity to defend the Falkland Islands. France's Naval Group is offering Scorpene submarines, while Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems has proposed its Type 209NG design. Both governments have offered full upfront financing, with Argentina paying back the cost in instalments. Milei told the UN that Argentina could 'take matters into our own hands'.
Burnham told MPs it would be a 'dereliction of duty' to reject closer ties with Brussels.
He has also said he is open to Germany joining Britain's GCAP fighter jet programme.
Argentine military chief Admiral Marcelo Dalle Nogare said the boats are 'among the best submarines in the world today'.
