France and Germany offer to build submarines for Argentina as Downing Street is warned of a Falklands 'game changer'

Downing Street has received warnings that an upgrade to Javier Milei's naval forces could prove a 'game changer' for Britain's capacity to defend the Falkland Islands. France's Naval Group is offering its Scorpène boats and Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems its Type 209NG design. Both governments would finance the deal, letting Argentina repay in instalments. Andy Burnham told MPs it would be a 'dereliction of duty' not to seek closer EU ties.
Argentine military chief Admiral Marcelo Dalle Nogare called both designs 'among the best submarines in the world'.
At the UN, Milei warned that Argentina might be compelled to 'take matters into our own hands'.
Burnham recently indicated his openness to Germany joining Britain's GCAP fighter jet programme.
