Paris prepares for another night as France orders fresh curfews following weekend riots

Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin announced that 149 rioters had been handed jail sentences by Tuesday noon, from a total of around 2,500 people detained since Saturday. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu credited 'targeted curfews' with keeping the previous night peaceful, adding that prefects will impose fresh ones wherever the situation demands. Some 5,000 riot officers are set to be deployed around Paris ahead of tonight's PSG v Barcelona fixture, supported by armoured cars and water cannon.

An 'ultra-left' militant on France's security watchlist has been arrested in connection with the Limoges city hall fire.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez acknowledged that police had 'lost control' in certain areas.

In Marseille, 118 officers were injured and upwards of 500 businesses suffered damage.
