France extends riot curfews after an uneasy night of calm, with Marseille now set to lock down minors
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu claimed 'targeted curfews have contributed to the calm of this night' and said prefects will impose new ones where needed. Paris locked down areas around the Élysée Palace, the Champs-Élysées and Bastille from 11pm to 6am. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez admitted police 'lost control' after 2,500 arrests. Some 5,000 riot police will ring the PSG-Barcelona match tonight.
Marseille counted more than 500 damaged premises, and a quarter of its 101 arrests were children.
A police union boss called the weekend an 'apocalyptic' hell after 118 Marseille officers were injured.
Emmanuel Macron blamed 'agitators from far-Left fringe groups, joined by numerous criminals' for the violence.
