France is to deploy 70,000 police and armoured vehicles after last weekend's riots left nearly 1,000 officers injured
Interior minister Laurent Nunez vowed: 'We are ready tomorrow to be extremely firm and not tolerate anything.' He blamed social media calls for violence from 'ultra-left' groups. Elite counter-terror units, helicopters, drones and water cannon will join Saturday's operation. The Louvre, Orsay and Picasso museums will shut their doors as students, unions and 'yellow vest' activists prepare to march again.
The government admitted it 'lost control' last weekend, when rioters torched Limoges town hall.
More than 2,500 people were arrested and over 3,000 shops were looted or damaged.
