France tells Israel to 'stop these acts of terror' after masked settlers attacked European diplomats and a French mayor
Bernard Baudoux, mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, was knocked to the ground in his tricolour sash in Taybeh on Saturday. A witness said the masked attacker shouted 'Vive la France'. Benjamin Netanyahu's office cast doubt on the assault, calling it part of a 'coordinated campaign to smear Israel'. The EU has now condemned the settlers too, and Israel's President has added his own condemnation.
Settlers smashed the window of an armoured Belgian mission car and threatened Archbishop Vincent Dollmann.
Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the diplomats should have coordinated their visit with Israel's military.
A day earlier, settlers injured Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine, and Marco Rubio urged a 'crack down'.
