Freddy Brazier spent his BBC 'Race Across the World' budget on cannabis to cope with Mother's Day grief

Freddy Brazier, 22, son of the late Jade Goody, has disclosed that he diverted part of his strictly allocated £1,100 BBC Celebrity Race Across the World budget to buy marijuana while filming in Brazil. On Mother's Day 2024, he climbed out of his hotel window — despite warnings from staff about the dangers of the surrounding area — and spent the night smoking cannabis on the beach alongside local bracelet-makers under the stars. Goody died of cervical cancer in 2009, leaving Freddy, who was just six at the time, without his mother; he has since spoken openly about struggles with drug addiction and poor mental health.
Freddy called the decision 'selfish' — saying it 'could have cost us the show' and the whole race.
He also admitted deceiving his father Jeff, turning up to pre-show interviews high and sleep-deprived, with visible bags under his eyes.
'It was beautiful, but it was so wrong,' Brazier told the Terry Stone Connection podcast, adding that the show arrived at 'a bad time' mentally.
