Macron calls French drive-by shooting a 'racist terror attack' as suspect's flat is found booby-trapped with gas cylinders
Police searching the suspect's car recovered a British Second World War-era Sten-type submachine gun and a tear gas canister. The man killed was a 24-year-old Frenchman, described by Trappes mayor Ali Rabeh as 'of African origin'. A 12-year-old girl was shot eight times and is now stable. Five anti-crime officers ended the attack after it ran for just under 15 minutes, spanning Trappes and La Verrière.
The suspect, a 39-year-old French national named locally as Kévin T, is under arrest.
A close family member was also detained for questioning.
Rabeh said the gunman wanted 'to cause a bloodbath', firing at a playground and a petrol station.
