French far-left feminist apologises for calling mother threatened with rape 'collateral damage', but insists the threat was unrelated to protests

Bettina Zourli, a gender studies graduate who backs Jean-Luc Melenchon's La France Insoumise, now calls her own words 'shocking'. The woman had told her a rioter threatened to rape her at home with her child after she tried to stop looters raiding the shop below. Zourli's reply was: 'It's collateral damage.' Former prime minister Gabriel Attal publicly condemned the exchange on Instagram.
Last weekend's protests saw 3,000 shops ransacked and almost 1,000 police officers injured.
Zourli insists the threat had 'NOTHING TO DO' with the October 17 mobilisation.
