Paris shopkeepers arm themselves before Saturday's protests after Macron bans 'illegitimate' marches and blames the 'ultra-left'
Paris gun shop owner Yves Gollety says demand has soared eight to ten times, with customers buying €50 irritant-gel canisters and €500 pistol-style devices. His buyers say they no longer trust police to protect them. Businesses, museums and cultural events will stay shut on Saturday. Last weekend nearly 1,000 police were injured and more than 3,000 shops were looted or damaged.
President Emmanuel Macron blamed 'seditious acts by ultra-left groups whose aim is to bring down the Republic'.
Lyon has banned all Saturday protests, but a court overturned a police ban on a Paris student march.
Michèle Teboul, whose family lost five stores to looters, warns Macron: 'Next Saturday is your last chance to save France.'
