Fresh flooding hits the US Southwest after a tornado touched down in Santa Fe and rivers swamped homes
Crews in New Mexico spent Sunday scouring evacuated neighbourhoods for dead animals and downed power lines as the San Juan River receded. About 600 households were ordered out of Farmington, said city spokeswoman Gina Intoppa. County spokesman Devin Neeley said rescuers were 'picking people off of roofs'. Officials know of no deaths, but hundreds are still without power.
Forecasters say the San Juan River flooding is the worst since before Navajo Dam was finished in 1962.
Neeley said the local sheriff was 'damn near going to lose his home'.
Meteorologist Kris Sanders warned saturated soils mean little rain could overflow creeks and streams.
