Cardiff Council has received a licence application confirming that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will make their ring walk at 1am GMT, placing what has been billed as the most significant bout in British boxing's history deep into Saturday morning. The scheduling reflects peak US viewing hours; Netflix holds broadcast rights to the fight, and Saudi promoter Turki Alalshikh had originally sought to stage the event at New York's Madison Square Garden. More than 80,000 tickets go on sale this Friday, priced from £75, with VIP packages expected to exceed £1,000.
The Principality Stadium currently holds a boxing licence until 1am and will need that extended to 3am — objections to the application can be lodged until 3 November.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, indicated last month that the ring walk might be pushed back as far as 2am, with the final decision lying with Netflix and Turki Alalshikh.
The late-start format echoes a precedent set almost two decades ago, when Joe Calzaghe met Mikkel Kessler at the same Cardiff venue at an hour well past midnight.
