Imrane Chelirem, 15, and his father Mohamed were stabbed by two masked intruders at their Station Road home in Thurnby, Leicestershire, shortly after midnight on 8 October in what police called a "completely unprovoked" attack. Both were rushed to hospital in a critical condition but Leicestershire Police confirmed on Wednesday they are now stable and receiving specialist treatment. His mother suffered minor hand and shoulder injuries and has since been discharged; three other children in the house were unhurt.

Coalville Town Raptors called Imrane "a teammate, a friend and a huge part of our football family" and launched a GoFundMe in his honour.

Police attended with armed officers, but the two masked men had already fled before they arrived; no arrests have been made.

Investigators say there is "nothing to suggest" a racial or religious motive behind the attack, and they believe there is no wider risk to the public.
