Gavin Newsom says ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle's ouster as US ambassador to Greece is 'unfortunate' and wishes her the best

Confronted by a CBS reporter during a New Hampshire campaign stop, California Governor Gavin Newsom stopped, rubbed his eyes, then said: 'I don't know enough about it.' He added that he had not spoken to Guilfoyle 'in a while'. Guilfoyle, 57, was ousted last Tuesday amid allegations that she asked a donor to foot a $100,000 American Express bill in return for access. She denies the claims, saying the texts released by Eric Deters were doctored.

Trump reportedly ignored Guilfoyle's frantic calls as her Athens posting unravelled.

She reportedly pleaded with Pete Hegseth and Tom Barrack to intervene with the president on her behalf.

Newsom and Guilfoyle wed in 2001 and their divorce was finalised in 2006.
