Rebecca Belote, of Coweta County, Georgia, spotted a Facebook photo of her four-year-old pug Cha Cha months after paying Senoia Animal Hospital to euthanise her in March 2026. A former employee confirmed the dog had been taken home by a female worker instead, and the worker's husband told Belote that Cha Cha had fully recovered and was in good health.

Belote's 17-year-old son, who wore matching hoodies with Cha Cha and carried her everywhere, had been grieving a dog that was still alive.

The family alleges the clinic then put Cha Cha down to conceal the cover-up; no criminal charges have been brought by police.

Belote has filed a complaint with the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine; the hospital's lawyer has indicated the clinic is under advice to stay silent on the matter publicly.
